The Kingdom of Bahrain Chairs the 87th Meeting of the Committee of the Central Bank Governors of the GCC

Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain – 14 September 2026: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Presidency of the 46th Session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, HE Khalid Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, chaired the 87th meeting of the Committee of Central Bank Governors of the GCC. The meeting was attended by HE Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) along with the Governors of the central banks of the GCC member states.

In his opening address, HE Khalid Humaidan commended the continued commitment of GCC member states to strengthening cooperation and coordination among their central banks in support of financial and monetary stability. He also highlighted the continued development of the financial and banking sector across the GCC, emphasizing its pivotal role in supporting economic growth and advancing sustainable development.

During the meeting, the Committee discussed several key topics related to enhancing cooperation among the GCC member countries, including the recommendations of committees and working groups on GCC payment systems implementation plan, supervision and oversight of the banking sector, and financial technologies in the GCC. The Committee also discussed the exchange of cybersecurity information within the banking sector, as well as efforts undertaken by GCC member countries in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
