CBB instructs Money Changers to disinfect currency notes and wholesale imported notes to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Manama, Bahrain – 23 March 2020 – The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has instructed Money Changers to disinfect all incoming currency notes and wholesale imported notes to limit the risk of exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Under the instructions, Money Changers are required to disinfect incoming currency and wholesale imported notes with Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) or by isolating notes for 72 hours.

Money Changers Licensees are also required to equip employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per recommendations outlined by the Ministry of Health.

The CBB is committed to safeguarding the well-being of financial service sector employees and customers while ensuring service contingency.
